What is a Laminated Glass?

Most of us are confused about laminated glass and Single Glazed tempered glass. The main difference between the two is the way they are constructed. Single Glazed glass consists of a single pane of glass, whereas laminated glass consists of two panes of glass sandwiched between a clear or coloured layer Plastic Resin. The core usability criteria of laminated glass is the way glass unit behaves in case of breakage or damage. When a laminated glass unit breaks, the broken glass does not fall out; it rather sticks-on to the Plastic Resin. This is the biggest safety quality of a laminated glass unit.

Tempered glasses are generally used in lamination, which further adds to the safety value of the laminated glass unit.

Laminated Glass Processing Steps

Here are the six broad steps that are involved in processing the laminated glass:

Laminated Glass Processing Steps

Step 1: The glass gets cut into the desired shapes, sizes, and designs as per the client’s requirements.

Step 2: A roller table and feeding device convey the glass to the washing machines. In this step, the aim is to minimise the wide gap between the panes of the glass.

Step 3: Next, the glass panes get adequately cleaned using the machines.

Step 4: The dried and clean glass panes get transported to a clean room. A proper temperature that is needed is set. The room then gets cleaned properly, and PVB film rolls are kept in place.

Step 5: Along with the PVB films, these glass panes get aligned. This sandwich is kept on a ‘nip roller.’ The sandwich is compressed and heated at the same time to remove the air that is in between the layers.

Step 6: Lastly, the laminated glass is taken to the auto-clave cart.

What is Laminated Glass Used for?

There are several laminated glass properties, due to which it is widely used. It is used in multiple places, such as it gets used in buildings where there are higher chances of natural disasters and hurricanes. Laminated glass is also used for windows of the houses that are at a higher risk of breaking.
